Many are stressed and filled with anxiety with the onslaught of the Covid-19 virus. Life in general can become very worrisome. This message brings hope for those struggling with worry and anxiety with some answers on how we can get rid of worry from our lives.
Jesus addresses Worry in Matthew 6 with sermon on the Mount
Three times he says STOP worrying - v25,31,34
The word for anxiety or worry comes from the concept of being strangled or choked.
Anxiety can stop us from hearing God's voice:
Luke 8:14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear,
but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature
Worry is focusing on my fears instead of God (Rick Warren)
When we worry we are behaving like an Orphan
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.
Life is more than food and clothing
How do the birds eat? Your heavenly Father feeds them. How much value are we than birds to our heavenly Father
Futility and pointlessness of worry - v27
FOCUS for the solution - Matt 6:33 Seek first God and his kingdom - all the things the pagans worry about will be granted to us as we prioritize God and his kingdom
Apostle Paul brings full solution:
Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Worry about nothing - PRAY about everything.
With Thanksgiving which always brings with it FRESH HOPE
Phil 4: 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
What a promise - supernatural gift of peace which brings a calm in the midst of any storm
Build a worry box - take a normal shoe box and cut a slot in the top. Whenever you get worried right it down on a piece of paper and post it into that box. It is no longer your worry anymore. Everything in that box is God's responsibility. Don't go taking that worry out of the box again. Leave it with God.
